HJ-Zip is basically Winzip lite in that is has a nice interface and it almost completely "idiot proof" but with less features. HJ-Zip is pretty much a zip program that was written in dos with a windows interface to activate the functions. This can be seen when adding files to a self-extracting archive (it is done through a dos window). HJ-Zip doesn't support the features that Winzip does such as password protecting an archive or storing directory information in the archive but it gets the job done (and it gets it done a lot quicker; probably due to the fact that dos programs usually run faster than their windows counterparts). All zips that are made are compatible with Winzip (as one would expect).
